Hours before the break of dawn yesterday, i was awakened and no matter how i tried, i was not able to get back to sleep. Because i did not want to start work that very early, i refused to open my bag which contained files i was working on the night before. Instead, i got Anne Rice’s Called Out of Darkness: a spiritual confession from the stack of books near my table. It was one of the books which i bought from the month-long book sale at National Bookstore but never got enough time to read all of them (hopefully, i will soon).
After reading a few pages, i skipped to the middle part. I’d like to share with you that part which struck me the most:
xxx He knew how or why everything happened; He knew the disposition of every single soul.
He wasn’t going to let anything happen by accident! Nobody was going to Hell by mistake. This was His world, all this! He had complete control of it; His justice, His mercy– were not our justice or our mercy. What folly to even imagine such a thing.
-Anne Rice, Called Out of Darkness: a spiritual confession (New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2008), 183.
The page got me hooked. That morning, I brought the book along with me to my meeting; and I finished reading to the last page while I was on my ride to the office.
The book is really interesting as it was written by a former atheist and author of the famous Interview with a Vampire.
I hope you get the chance to read the book about her transformation, too.
Have a very good day! 😀
