For about a split second I was mid-air. Somehow I enjoyed that. In that very moment, even gravity stood still.
But gravity eventually gained its composure and pulled me down. Fast.
My body hit the road, really hard. My head banged on the cement. The impact shattered the right side of my helmet. Broken into pieces.
Blood gushed out of my head injuries. I felt numb and started to get dizzy.
There was the pain all over my body. I tried to stand but I was too weak to push my body up. I fell down, my face hit the road once again. I labored with my breathing.
My world began to fade. With eyes closed, vivid in my mind were memories of all stages of my life, snippets of my childhood, adolescence and early adult life, those of family, friends and love ones. It occurred in a flash.
Then there was darkness. I could only hear the vibrations of the road from vehicles running past me.
The vibrations grew fainter.
Until I heard the sirens of an ambulance from afar.
Even as my consciousness waned, I know I will be safe.
